Coventry City boss Mark Robins issues ‘ready’ warning ahead of Leicester City opener

Latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive as rival manager comments on Foxes vs Coventry Championship opener

Mark Robins says the Championship opener against Leicester City is a tough match but one his side are ready for.

The Foxes will start their 2023/24 Championship campaign at home to the Sky Blues on Sunday, August 6 (12pm) when Enzo Maresca’s side will be pushing hard for am instant return to the Premier League.

In their attempts to do so, Leicester have so far recruited four players in Harry Winks, Conor Coady, Callum Doyle and shot-stopper Mads Hermansen. Striker Stephy Mavididi is also set to be confirmed next week from Montpellier.

Coventry missed out on promotion after they were beaten on penalties by Luton Town in the Championship play-off final. And heading into the new season, Sky Blues boss Robins has discussed the issues facing his team after ushering in eight fresh faces so far while losing 12 to date.

But Coventry have won three of their four friendlies to Forest Green Rovers, MK Dons and Exeter City, and Robins is confident his players will deliver against the Foxes.

We’re ready now, it’s a tough start for us and we have to start as brightly as we can and look forward to it,” he said. “It’s really exciting. I hate pre-season because it’s a means to an end and next week the real ball comes in.

“We have to be ready we have no choice. It’s been a different pre-season but I think every pre-season I’ve taken here has been different. It’s been full on, pretty good.

“We’ve worked solidly over the summer, and we will continue to do that. Now it starts for real and it will be great to get the supporters back in and have something to play for.”
