LeBron James, the 20-time All-Star forward for the Los Angeles Lakers, has a $51.4 million player option for the 2024-25 NBA season. Although he has until June 29 to make his decision, Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the decision has already been made and that James plans to opt out and become an unrestricted free agent

 

 

At 39, James is no longer the league’s top player, but he remains a significant force on the court. Despite the Lakers’ struggles over the past two seasons, where they have only managed a 90-74 record and failed to secure a seed higher than seventh, James’ decision to opt out doesn’t necessarily mean he intends to leave Los Angeles. The Lakers are reportedly willing to offer him any contract to keep him, similar to their approach with Kobe Bryant in his final years.
