Back in June, the Minnesota Vikings officially extended the contract of superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson, a move that many were anticipating to happen during the 2024 offseason. Before the deal was signed, however, the San Francisco 49ers apparently contacted the Vikings to see if they could possibly acquire Jefferson in a trade.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Sunday, the 49ers reached out to Minnesota prior to the 2024 NFL Draft to see if there was any chance of making a deal to land Jefferson.
Unsurprisingly, the Vikings had “zero interest” in trading their top wide receiver, according to Shefter, and a few weeks later, he signed his extension to remain under contract with Minnesota until the 2029 offseason.
Minnesota Vikings were never going to trade Justin Jefferson to San Francisco 49ers or any other team
Prior to the Vikings and Jefferson officially agreeing to a contract extension in June, there were a number of crazy rumors about Minnesota possibly trading their star pass-catcher to another team before the start of the 2024 season.

Prior to the Vikings and Jefferson officially agreeing to a contract extension in June, there were a number of crazy rumors about Minnesota possibly trading their star pass-catcher to another team before the start of the 2024 season.
But they all seemed to just be nothing more than bogus rumors, and after Jefferson signed his new deal with the Vikings, all the talk about him playing elsewhere this year quickly went away.
Jefferson is now in his fifth season with Minnesota after the team selected him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He’s been everything the Vikings could have hoped for and more during his tenure with the franchise.
But after missing seven games in 2023, Jefferson is back this year to prove to everyone that he should still be regarded as the absolute best wide receiver in the entire NFL.
Earlier this month, he said that he’s still hoping to eclipse the 2,000 receiving yards mark in a single season at least once in his career, and if that happens this year, then there will be no debate about who the top receiver in the league currently is.
