Norwich City fans shouldn’t allow themselves to be overly concerned by the return of Daniel Farke on Saturday. That’s the message from Mario Vrancic, who played under now Leeds United boss Farke at Carrow Road and is calling for supporters to have more patience with the club’s current manager David Wagner.
Norwich are currently seventh in the Championship table, sitting just two places and two points behind this weekend’s visitors. However, the Norfolk outfit have won just two of their last seven Championship games and that run has seen Wagner come under slight pressure from the fanbase.
Wagner will be hoping to set the record straight this weekend against Leeds and Farke, who is still highly thought of at Norwich for leading the club out of the Championship on two separate occasions. Vrancic also knows Wagner well having spent time under him at Borussia Dortmund II and is imploring supporters to get behind the German, while insisting Farke’s return, two years after his sacking, is just another game.
You have to deal with it,” Vrancic told the BBC in reference to Farke’s return to the club. “It’s common in football these days.
“You just need to trust him [Wagner]. I remember playing under him. Before the winter break we were eighth or ninth in the table. In the second half of the season we won 19 games out of 21 and got promoted.
Vrancic spent four seasons playing under Farke at Norwich, joining him from Darmstadt in 2017, shortly after the German’s appointment. The Bosnian made 123 appearances for the club and played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2018-19 by bagging 10 goals.
Norwich repeated the feat in Vrancic’s final season in East Anglia, bouncing back to the top flight at the first time of asking and the midfielder, who currently represents FK Sarajevo, has some fond memories of his spell under the now Leeds boss.
“Daniel is a great manager, a great guy and human being,” he added. “I’m very happy he got the chance to work for a big club like Leeds United
