Daniel Farke made the “right call” to exclude Archie Gray from Leeds United training, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue.
The midfielder was left out of the club’s training session on Thursday (19 October) after returning from international duty [Yorkshire Evening Post, 20 October].
That was due to the 17-year-old having played every minute of England Under-19’s three matches during the international break, leaving his club manager “furious.”
Daniel Farke chose to leave Archie Gray out of training yesterday, prescribing an extra recovery session following his involvement with England U19s,” Donnohue wrote on Twitter (20 October).
Five full 90s in space of 13 days – so, probably the right call. Leeds being careful with 17-year-old’s workload.
Fatigue will definitely affect the performances of several players this weekend following the recent international break.
Countless Premier League and Championship stars were in action for their respective countries, with many playing two matches.
Leeds youngster Gray, however, was involved in three matches, with the youngster representing the Young Lions in their Under-19 European Championship qualifiers.
Whites boss Farke is understandably annoyed at that decision, which could force the manager to leave the young midfielder out of his starting XI for the clash with Norwich City.
Leeds travel to Carrow Road to take on the Canaries in Championship action on Saturday (21 October), with Farke returning to a club where he enjoyed so much success.
It will be a tough test for the visitors, who could start with either Glen Kamara or Ilia Gruev in midfield alongside Ethan Ampadu given the issue with Gray, who will perhaps still be desperate to play despite his packed recent schedule.
