As a potential successor for Kelechi Iheanacho, Leicester City has their sights set on Ben Brereton Díaz, a former forward for Nottingham Forest.
The East Midlands club is reportedly in the running to recruit the Chile international, along with Burnley and Crystal Palace, according to Caughtoffside.
Díaz joined Villarreal from Blackburn Rovers in the summer but has struggled to make an impact, failing to find the back of the net for the Yellow Submarine in 10 appearances spread across 361 minutes.
Rather than an outright sale, the 2020/2021 UEFA Europa League winners are considering letting him leave on a loan deal in January.
Iheanacho is running into the final months of his contract with the one-time Premier League champions and will be free to sign a pre-contract with any club in January.
The Nigerian has contributed to the Foxes’ strong start to the campaign, which has put them in a strong position to make a return to the English premier league the following year.
Iheanacho, who has five goals in 15 games, is Enzo Maresca’s team’s equal leading scorer in the Championship.
