The Dallas Cowboys believe they should be playing for the Super Bowl. The team recently defeated the New York Giants in a landslide, bringing its season total to 6-3.
For owner Jerry Jones and Co., it’s all about hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. He’s made that more than clear recently. This has head coach Mike McCarthy facing a ton of pressure as the second half of the regular season continues and the playoffs start in a matter of weeks.
We’ve read speculation about Dallas being interested in big-name head coaches should the McCarthy experiment not work out. But this new note from Albert Breer of MMQB takes the cake.
Breer indicates that there is a lot of talk around NFL circles about New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick potentially landing with the Washington Commanders or Dallas Cowboys once the 2023 season comes to an end.

Unless you have been hiding under a rock over the past several weeks, indications are that Belichick’s 24-year run with the Patriots will soon come to an end. New England sits at 2-8 on the season and is going nowhere fast. There was even some speculation that owner Robert Kraft — embarrassed by New England’s showing in a 10-6 loss to the Colts in Germany last week — might simply move off Belichick during the season.
That seems highly unlikely. What we do know is that all good things must come to an end. New England is seemingly prepared to move on to a new era without Belichick. Meanwhile, the six-time Super Bowl champion wants to continue coaching. Despite recent struggles, he’ll have options out there.
Belichick has already been linked to a Commanders team that will likely move off Ron Rivera following the 2023 season.
“There’s chatter in some league circles that the Commanders might attempt to essentially trade for Patriots coach Bill Belichick in 2024,” Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio noted.
New Commanders owner Josh Harris could be looking for a sense of stability for an organization that was without it under disgraced former owner Daniel Snyder over the past quarter-century. Not only would Belichick bring that, he’d bring some respect back to the organization. It is a real fit.
