A four-horse race between Leicester City, Ipswich Town, Leeds United, and Southampton is quickly developing in the battle for Championship automatic promotion.
There is already a four-point gap between fourth and fifth place, so even though Leeds and Southampton lost ground in the middle of the week, they are still in a position to profit if Championship leaders Leicester and Ipswich make a mistake.
With all four promotion candidates positioning themselves to score at least 90 points, the three Premier League teams that were demoted (as well as Kieran McKenna’s incredible Ipswich squad) seem to be a cut above the others.
A thrilling four-horse race for the top two could be in store for Championship fans. However, Leeds United and Leicester City are probably the most likely to finish in the automatic spots given this fairly strong starting lineup.
