The Lakers and Hawks seem to be at a standstill in their trade negotiations, citing the need for a third team to compete with D’Angelo Russell and draft picks as the main obstacles.
With a plethora of reports emerging on Monday, it is evident that the Hawks and Lakers are making progress toward a Dejounte Murray trade. Although it is now almost a given that the two sides are in negotiations, it is also fairly obvious that those talks have reached a dead end.
The word from various reports was pretty clear, mostly indicating that D’Angelo Russell’s landing spot and draft picks are the two main issues delaying the Murray negotiations.
In the midst of a fantastic comeback month following a dismal December, Russell is riding high following one of his best performances of the season against Portland. The veteran guard’s trade value hasn’t altered as a result,
given that he has a history of being a streaky scorer.
The Hawks don’t seem all that interested in trading for Russell as part of a package, and a third team would have to take him on in order to finalize the deal, given that he would be a pretty bad fit next to Trae Young.
