The last Japanese (and only) player that arrived at Anfield did so for a small fee, left as a cult hero and for pretty much double the original amount. There’s no guarantee of a lot of things in this scouting report, never mind the first part. However, it’s a name that’s been linked with a move to Anfield for some time and whilst some might ask who, those who scour wider European football will be excited. A potential low-risk move, due to a low-market fee with a high-ceiling potential. We wouldn’t class this one as certain by any means, but it’s one to keep an eye on.
His might not be a recognised or known name to many, but quite a bit has been said about Keito Nakamura. Adrian Kajumba from The Daily Mail has written recently that the Reds were one of a number of clubs interested in the 22 year-old. Dortmund had also been linked with the LASK attacker, but Florian Plettenberg has recently ruled out their interest. Mike McGrath of the Daily Telegraph also wrote about Liverpool’s interest, whilst suggesting that Eintracht Frankfurt were in for the player.

What Does He Bring?
Possessing a powerful shot and somewhat of a set-piece specialist, Nakamura is seen as a next potential star of Japanese football and has two international caps and one goal to his name. Able to play on the left-side of attack, off the front man or in the central position, his flexibility and performances in the Austrian League are the reason many expect him to move on to pastures new this summer. Whilst not in the strongest league, his work-rate and potential are whilst other clubs may well seem him as a low-risk gamble worth taking.
Stats and Info
The former Gamba Osaka man has enjoyed an incredible breakout season in Austria, notching an impressive 17 goals and 8 assists in 36 appearances this campaign. Despite having completed his maiden campaign, Nakamura’s contract only has two years remaining on a paltry £4,000 per week according to SalarySport.com, which Liverpool could easily improve on. His agents are Wasserman, who already boast Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones as clients so if the Reds do want to take the plunge it doesn’t seem a difficult move.
Price Tag and Realistic
A forward isn’t high on Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp’s priority list if at all, with the midfield and defence needing reinforcements. However, if they’re looking at options for a sixth-choice forward with the likes of Fabio Carvalho set to move in on some form, then a low-risk style move could well fit the bill. It’s not one to class as likely, but Nakamura’s name keeps cropping up in conjunction with Liverpool and until he moves one way or the other it can’t be ignored. Another for the eyes peeled column.
