This is a recent AP article about MLB:
PHOENIX (AP) — In his first spring training start with the New York Yankees on Sunday, Marcus Stroman tossed 2 1/3 innings, striking out two and surrendering three runs on four hits and a walk.
During the offseason, the 32-year-old right-hander, who grew up on Long Island around 55 miles from Yankee Stadium, inked a $37 million, two-year contract. In a split-squad game against the Philadelphia Phillies, he threw 31 of 52 pitches for strikes, saying it was “exciting getting the first one under the belt.”
Stroman remarked, “I felt good in spurts today, just wasn’t over the 50 pitches overall.” “I just need to be more consistent and frequently feel comfortable with my mechanics.”
- In that regard, I think I’m ahead of plan,” Stroman remarked. “But I’m definitely not in sync with where I should be heading mechanically in a season.” However, over the course of the next two, three, or four outings, I see everything coming together.
After suffering a rib cartilage fracture and missing six weeks of play due to discomfort in his right hip, Stroman concluded the season with his highest ERA since 2018.
In the other split-squad game played on Sunday, New York’s slugger Juan Soto hit his first spring home run in pinstripes, taking Toronto right-hander Trevor Richards far in the fourth inning.
Soto remarked, “You want to be there, you want to feel like the Yankees fans.” “You always heard about them, and eventually you start to think, ‘I want to feel that.'” I’m curious to experience what it will be like to have them applaud rather than jeer at me. It’s been rather enjoyable.
Senga won’t throw for a minimum of three weeks.
Right-hander Kodai Senga of the New York Mets will not throw for around three weeks as the team monitors his sore shoulder’s reaction to an injection of platelet-rich plasma.
Senga returned to camp in Florida a few days ago after receiving the injection in New York, according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, who spoke with reporters on Sunday.
