Liverpool ready to pay a fortune to sign ‘the best player in the world’
Liverpool have once again been tipped to rival Real Madrid for the signing of PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.
The Reds have been continuously linked with a huge move for Mbappe, with rumours flaring up again recently. After the 24-year-old publicly declared his intention not to extend his contract beyond 2024, his club have put him up for sale.
Now, in an interview with Spanish outlet Marca, football agent Marco Kirdemir has insisted that Liverpool are ready to make a massive offer to buy Mbappe
Liverpool still in Mbappe conversation.
According to Marca, the ‘fortune’ Kirdemir refers to would be a fee of around £248m. Now, you can tell that this agent – and the Spanish newspaper he’s speaking to – aren’t particularly familiar with the way Liverpool are run.
Had they known anything about FSG’s transfer policy, they’d be aware that this is simply never going to happen.
If there were any player in world football worth spending that kind of money on, then it’s probably Mbappe. He’s fresh off another superb season in France, and has recently been called ‘the best player in the world.
But no matter how good he is and how valuable asset he would become commercially, Liverpool won’t do it. It’s too much. Way, way, way too much.
Still, there is concrete evidence to suggest that the Reds were potentially interested in Mbappe on a free transfer last year. Should he become available for nothing in 12 months, it isn’t out of the question that they’d try and get him.
Of course, the transfer fee is only part of the battle here. Signing Mbappe would require Liverpool to smash their wage structure and probably pay an enormous signing on fee, too.
But the player himself clearly likes Liverpool. If they can get themselves in a position to challenge for his signature in a year’s time, then they should do it. Whatever news Kirdemir is expecting around Mbappe this week though, it won’t be anything to do with Liverpool.
