Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese is continuing to make league history at every turn. She joined Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark as the first two rookies to be named to the WNBA All-Star game since 2014, and Reese has also set the record for most consecutive double-doubles with 13, surpassing Candace Parker.
Angel Reese’s achievement of being the first rookie in WNBA history to win two Player of the Week (POTW) awards is a significant milestone. It highlights her exceptional performance and impact on the court early in her professional career. Reese, who joined the WNBA after a standout collegiate career, quickly established herself as a key player. Her back-to-back POTW awards underscore her ability to deliver consistently high-level performances, a promising sign for both her and her team’s future. Such recognition not only adds to her personal accolades but also draws attention to her potential to become one of the league’s top stars.
Reese continues to play at a high level and helped the Sky secure a 2-1 record from July 2-7. The Sky took on the Atlanta Dream on July 2, which saw Reese secure 12 points, 19 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. The Sky would win by a final score of 85-77.
Sunday, Reese set the record for consecutive double-doubles, with her 13th in a row. Reese has now surpassed Parker, who set the record of 12 between the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
It took Parker two seasons to secure this number, and Reese has surpassed it with plenty of games left on the 2024 schedule. By season’s end, Reese could add on a few more double-doubles. Securing 13 in a row is already impressive enough, but she continues to showcase an elite skillset that could lead to a few more happening in the next few games.
