Luka Doncic wins $100k bet with Mavericks teammate after doing the impossible and proving why he’s known as ‘Magic.
It’s earned him the nickname ‘Magic’, and on Sunday the Slovenian sensation showed once again why he’s the most electrifying ticket in town.
The Mavs held an open practice inside American Airlines Center on Sunday, labelled as ‘Fan Jam’.
Doncic is currently out with a calf contusion, but still coached one of the teams taking part in the practice and found time to hit a full-court shot and win a bet with Dereck Lively II.
The 25-year-old hit a one-handed hook shot from just outside of the restricted circle. It traveled the entire length of the court before neatly swishing through the basket on the other side of the arena.
Lively’s stunned reaction said it all as cool-as-you-like Luka walked off the court like he’d just made a layup.
“How much did lively lose to luka just now cause luka absolutely hit that,” one fan asked on X.
Doncic replied revealing it was a $100k wager.
Luka signed a five-year, $215 million contract with the Mavs back during the 2022-23 season.
Lively, who was drafted 12th overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2023 before being traded to the Mavs, has a four-year, $22.28 million rookie contract with Dallas.
Fortunately for Lively, Doncic is already one of the top earners in the NBA and likely won’t make him cough up the $100k losing bet.
Five-time All-Star Doncic has a habit for knocking down ridiculous trick shots.
He spent most of last season trying to hit a shot off the in-arena scoreboard before games and finally hit one toward the end of the campagin.
He’s also appeared in several YouTube videos with Dude Perfect — a sports and comedy group who have amassed millions of social media followers with their gravity-defying trick shots.
