Liverpool signings are coming thick and fast and with a new report suggesting talks are progressing, they seem to be far from finished this summer.
After securing the services of Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for a hefty £60million, the club continues to bolster its squad. The signing of Szoboszlai comes shortly after the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister in June, for a fee of £35 million. With these acquisitions, Liverpool have already spent a substantial £95 million this season on transfers.
Last season, Liverpool faced several injury issues in their midfield, which presented a significant challenge for manager Jurgen Klopp.
According to data compiled by Premier Injuries’ data analyst Ben Dinnery and graphically presented by the Athletic, Liverpool ranked fourth for the highest number of injuries in the 2022/23 season.
These injury concerns have influenced Liverpool’s aggressive approach to the transfer market.
Which Liverpool signings are a priority?
Jamie Carragher, former vice-captain of Liverpool turned Sky Sports pundit, has shared his insights on the club’s transfer strategy. Carragher believes that Liverpool needs to strengthen its midfield and defensive positions.
Speaking at the end of last season, Carragher stated, “I think Liverpool will end up getting another two midfield players and I think they’ll need another defender as well.”
He also mentioned the possibility of Liverpool acquiring another three players in total.
The club has reportedly identified several potential candidates, particularly in the central defensive position.
Players such as Chelsea’s Levi Colwill, Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg, and Goncalo Inacio of Sporting have been linked with moves to Anfield.
However, Liverpool signings may not be limited to defence. The club could also pursue an additional midfielder, as suggested by Carragher.
Southampton’s Romeo Lavia and OGC Nice’s Khephren Thuram have emerged as serious targets. Negotiations with Thuram have reportedly gained momentum over the weekend, while Lavia is said to be in direct contact with Liverpool’s decision-makers, according to Rudy Galetti.
A move to sign the French 22-year-old would cost in the region of €45M (£39M).
With the signings of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, Liverpool have made a statement of intent in the transfer market.
The club’s focus on strengthening the midfield and potentially adding defensive reinforcements aligns with Carragher’s recommendations.
As Liverpool continues its squad rebuild, fans eagerly anticipate further developments in the transfer window, eager to see how these new signings will contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
