Breaking news:Star Oklahoma Defensive Lineman to Return for Sooners in 2025

Oklahoma Sooners defensive tackle Damonic Williams has announced his decision to return for the 2025 season, providing a significant boost to the team’s defensive front.

Williams, who transferred from TCU to Oklahoma prior to the 2024 season, made an immediate impact on the Sooners’ defense. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 312 pounds, he started all 13 games in 2024, recording 36 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, and two quarterback hurries. His performance earned him a defensive grade of 74.3 and a rush defense grade of 81.4 from Pro Football Focus, ranking him among the top defensive linemen on the team.

Williams’ return ensures continuity and experience for the Sooners’ defensive line, which also anticipates the return of players like Jayden Jackson and Gracen Halton. This stability is expected to be a cornerstone for the defense as the team aims to improve upon their 6-7 record from the previous season.

In his announcement, Williams shared a video on social media with the caption, “One more year,” signaling his commitment to the team’s future success.

Williams began his collegiate career at TCU, starting 27 games over two seasons before transferring to Oklahoma. His decision to return for his senior season reflects his belief in the potential of the Sooners’ defense and his desire to contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming season.

With Williams anchoring the defensive line, the Sooners are poised to field a formidable defense in 2025. His experience and leadership will be invaluable as the team prepares for the challenges of the new season, aiming to build on the foundation laid in 2024 and striving for greater achievements in the future.
