Breaking news: Mets predicted to replace Pete Alonso with projected $119 million two-time All-Star

The New York Mets could be moving on from a franchise cornerstone, but that doesn’t mean their lineup will be getting any worse.

As the team is said to be pivoting away from homegrown slugger Pete Alonso with the two sides unable to come to a new contract agreement, they have an opportunity to fortify their infield with a different free agent option.

Predicting the team’s 2025 lineup without Alonso, Damien Flores of Rising Apple projected that free agent slugger Alex Bregman would be brought in to bat third.

“Signing Alex Bregman is the perfect filler for Alonso, bringing in a better player with better defense is the correct way to construct the lineup,” Flores wrote. “This would shift Mark Vientos over to first base where he does have experience, making the Mets infield solid defensively.”
