Sky news: Pete Alonso rejects New York Mets offer and seems all in on the Toronto Blue Jays

Joel Sherman and Dan Martin of The New York Post provide some specifics, reporting that the team’s offer came with an overall guarantee in the $68-70MM range and included opt-outs. Anthony Franco MLB trade rumors

 

The 30-year-old Alonso was drafted by the New York Mets, in the second round in the 2016 MLB June amateur draft from the University of Florida. Last year’s stats showed that he had 34 home runs along with 88 RBI’s and OBP of .329 and OPS of .788

It was also mentioned by the Athletic that the Blue Jays were engaged with Alonso’s camp as the Blue Jays management in general manager Ross Atkins and President Mark Shapiro tries to silence their critics as the team’s off season has been very quiet beside signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr’s one year extension.

The Athletic reported this morning that the Blue Jays were among the teams still engaged with Alonso’s camp. It’s not clear whether those discussions also involve a short-term deal. Anthony Franco MLB trade Rumors

 

The Blue Jays need changes to their lineup including an improvement in their in field to which Alonso would give them that upgrade. Likely, if a deal were to take place Guerrero Jr would head over to third base and Alonso would take over first.
