Alexis Mac Allister will complete a move to Liverpool this week, subject to a successful medical, and will join up with his new teammates on July 8 at their Kirkby training base.
With Jurgen Klopp’s wish to strengthen the Merseysiders’ midfield well documented, a busy summer is about to kick-off with the capture of Mac Allister. And while the signing was previously reported at around £60m, Liverpool will pay significantly less for the departing Brighton star.
According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, Liverpool will pay the Seagulls an initial £45m for the 24-year-old World Cup winner. A further £5m will be due to Brighton in bonuses and add-ons, with a clause helping facilitate the move.
His father and agent on Monday evening touched down on Merseyside for talks which have taken place today. And an agreement on a five-year deal, worth £150,000 a week, will be finalised in the coming days.
That deal is subject to a medical, due to be held in the next 48 hours. But all being well, the transfer will be completed before the end of the week with an announcement likely before the weekend.
Mac Allister will then meet up with his Argentina teammates for two international friendlies. First up, they face Australia in Beijing next week, before playing Indonesia in Jakarta.

Mac Allister snubs Man Utd as star picks from two shirt numbers
During the talks, Mac Allister will be asked what shirt number he would like at Liverpool. And according to reports, the star will pick from the two shirt numbers: No 8 and No 10.
The No 8 jersey is an iconic one on Merseyside, having been made famous by Steven Gerrard. It was recently vacated by Naby Keita.
The No 10 shirt, meanwhile, has been vacant for 12 months following Sadio Mane’s move to Bayern Munich last summer. And given it was the shirt he wore exclusively during his three seasons at Brighton, that appears the more likely one to get the nod.
Meanwhile, The Times claims Mac Allister snubbed a late transfer hijack attempt from Manchester United to seal the move to Anfield.
He was the subject of a series of chats with Erik ten Hag, who was keen to lure him to Old Trafford. However, Mac Allister’s decision to move to Anfield, thus overlooking Mason Mount, has left the Red Devils free to pursue the Chelsea star.
To that end, Liverpool seemingly saw what they perceived as the better deal in Mac Allister. Meanwhile, Mount’s actions in pursuing a move away from Chelsea have stunned the Stamford Bridge hierarchy, sources have told TEAMtalk.

Mac Allister transfer bargain questioned by Simon Jordan
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s imminent capture of Mac Allister has been heralded by Simon Jordan.
He feels the lowly fee Liverpool are paying represents a transfer bargain. And he feels the lowball manner of his exit will disappoint Brighton.
“Let’s see if this refresh at Liverpool can give them what they need, which is an infusion of energy and youth, so we’ll see,” Jordan told talkSPORT. “I don’t think Brighton have particularly tied him up, have they? What did they achieve?
“You’ve got a World Cup winner coming back. They tied him up to be able to give him to Liverpool at probably below market value. So I imagine they’ll be a little bit disappointed with the situation. It’s happened rather quickly.
thought that we had got Mac Allister tied up in the situation where someone is going to have to pay top money for him, top money.
“I would have [wanted more money for him]. I’d want these big clubs who come along and take everybody else’s vision and don’t do it themselves to pay a requisite price for him. Brighton’s reward for their brilliant endeavour and their scouting and due diligence and all they do that other people simply can’t be bothered with is [they should get] top money, take the top club’s pants right down and make them pay for it.
The point is that they’ve met his release clause so it’s the end of the discussion. I wouldn’t be saying anything. I would have been saying that I wanted a bigger release clause. They did the contract before he went to the World Cup, didn’t they? So it was in a totally different land.”
