Newcastle are in talks to sign a £61m player keen to play for Jurgen Klopp.
Newcastle United are reportedly in talks to sign RB Leipzig superstar Dominik Szoboszlai, who recently admitted he wants to play for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
According to Newcastle World, the Magpies have entered into negotiations with the Hungary international as Eddie Howe seeks to sign two world-class midfielders this summer and Newcastle have already agreed a deal for AC Milan star Sandro Tonali.
According to the report, Szoboszlai has a £61million release clause, a transfer fee Newcastle could easily match. But the Toon faces competition for the 22-year-old, with 90min recently claiming that Liverpool scouted the versatile playmaker during Leipzig’s Bundesliga game against Bayern Munich. Furthermore, Szoboszlai himself has publicly stated that he would like to play under a manager like Klopp, a quote which could indicate that the former RB Salzburg star is looking to move to Liverpool this summer and make a name for himself at Anfield.
While Szoboszlai could have been perfect for Liverpool, it now appears Newcastle have taken the lead in the race to sign the Hungarian superstar, with Howe’s side set to explode in the transfer market in the coming weeks.
Liverpool were expected to fulfill Klopp’s dream of Szoboszlai amid interest from Newcastle
Szoboszlai would have been a huge coup for Liverpool in both the short and long term, but with Newcastle at the helm it’s a shame the Reds were unable to try and make playmaker Klopp’s dream a reality this summer. .
As we know, the Hungarian is clearly a big fan of Klopp and his work at Liverpool. And while a transfer would have been financially unfeasible for the Reds, there will always be those who wish Anfield would push the boat out to sign Szoboszlai this summer.
