A former All-Star pitcher and the Mets are reportedly on track for reaching an agreement.
Kodai Senga, a projected Opening Day starter and star, has a shoulder issue that will keep the 31-year-old off for at least three weeks. To help with the injury, Senga received a PRP injection.
The Mets will need to look elsewhere for starting pitching as Senga is probably not going to be on the roster to start the season.
Even though David Stearns, the new President of Baseball Operations, has done an excellent job of giving the rotation more depth, none of them can match Senga’s output. The Mets are reportedly looking to add a former all-star to their rotation.
At the trade deadline, the Tigers sold Lorenzen to the Philadelphia Phillies, where he was unable to return to the same degree of production.
Even though Lorenzen was wearing the red and white and threw a no-hitter in his second start, he was unable to repeat his success in the Motor City and was eventually sent to the bullpen.
The 32-year-old pitched 47.1 innings in 11 appearances—seven of which were starts—to a 5.51 ERA, 1.458 WHIP, and 28 strikeouts before leaving Philadelphia.
Michael Lorenzen is being pursued by the Mets.
The Athletic’s Tim Britton and Will Sammon report that RHP Michael Lorenzen has visited with the Mets.
Lorenzen just finished a campaign in 2023 that was divided into two parts. The Californian made his first career all-star appearance for the Detroit Tigers, pitching 105.2 innings across 18 starts to a 3.58 ERA, 1.098 WHIP, and 83 strikeouts.
Both parties just cannot continue to ignore the obvious logic in not reaching a consensus.
