A former Miami Heat player has signed with the Houston Rockets for NBA Summer League.

After getting waived by the Miami Heat earlier this month, Orlando Robinson will try to latch onto a spot with the Houston Rockets.

Robinson, 24, will join the Rockets Summer League team in Las Vegas starting this weekend, the team announced.

Robinson appeared in 36 games for the Heat last season and posted modest averages of 2.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 8.4 minutes per game, but he dominated during his time in the G League. In nine games for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Robinson averaged 24.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2.3 blocks while shooting 57.5%.

Although he showed potential, Robinson was beaten out by Thomas Bryant for the third center spot on the depth chart. The Heat re-signed Bryant to a one-year deal, then waived Robinson before his contract became fully guaranteed later this month.

Robinson will join an intriguing Rockets Summer League club that includes former first-round picks AJ Griffin and Kira Lewis Jr., as well as Houston’s recent top picks Reed Sheppard and Cam Whitmore.

The Rockets are already carrying the maximum 15 players on standard contracts but still have an open two-way spot available. If Robinson impresses in Las Vegas, he could have a chance at earning that last two-way.
