A former slugger of the Mets who was mocked into retirement declared “I truly left the game angrily.

When he was traded to the Mets, Mo Vaughn was at the end of his career, plagued by bad knees and a growing waistline. Tabloid columnists, sports talk radio hosts and callers had a field day with his weight, and after two disappointing seasons in Flushing, Vaughn retired.

“I left the game with a lot of anger, Vaughn told the Boston Globe recently. “Luckily, I was able to spin that around and have some success in business. The most important thing as a baseball player is to have a plan, and I had a plan and was able to get there.
