Arne Slot is expected to succeed Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool. The current Feyenoord boss has all but confirmed his appointment following his side’s win at the weekend.
Arne Slot has all but confirmed he will become the new Liverpool boss after seemingly being given his own send-off by Feyenoord fans.
The Dutchman is expected to replace Jürgen Klopp when the current Reds manager leaves at the end of the season. Klopp has just two more games in charge of Liverpool, with his final match coming against Wolves on May 19.
Slot insisted on Friday that an agreement had not yet been finalized for him to take over at Anfield. Nevertheless, he remained confident that he would succeed Klopp this summer.
And there were yet more signs of his impending appointment as he led Feyenoord to a 5-0 win over PEC Zwolle on Sunday. Fans of the Eredivisie club sang ‘stand up for Arne Slot’, with Slot responding with a wave, while also supplying his own Klopp fist pumps at full-time.
Asked after the game whether his gesture was a goodbye to the club’s fans, Slot responded (via the Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele): “I agree it looked like that! They are expecting me to leave. That is something we could say.”
Slot would also admit to having watched the start of Liverpool’s game against Tottenham, and all but confirm that he is set make the move to Anfield. “If the official confirmation is there, and I go there, I will watch a lot of games from them,” he said (via The Athletic).
“Sometimes in life, opportunities come along and you have to listen. I have made that choice for myself. In the next days and weeks, you will see the announcement.”
Slot’s decision comes after he attracted interest from Spurs last summer, only to stay put with Feyenoord. “Last year I made the choice to stay and now, I probably made another choice,” Slot added.
