Henry Ruggs signed a $16.7 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders just four years ago after the team selected him out of Alabama in the first round of the NFL Draft.
According to Las Vegas’ 8 News Now, he currently works in a prison camp in northern Nevada for $2.50 an hour.
The 25-year-old former star, of course, arrived there after being sentenced to a 3-to-10-year prison term on August 9, 2023, following his guilty plea to charges of driving under the influence at a reported 156 mph and colliding with Tina Tintor’s car, which is driven by her 23-year-old daughter. Tintor and her dog perished in the fiery car accident.
Ruggs had twice the legal blood alcohol limit, according to 8 News Now.
The station specifically stated that Ruggs is employed by the government offices at the camp as a community trusty.
Ruggs will be eligible for parole in August 2026, according to the station.
The Raiders selected the explosive receiver, who was a member of Alabama’s 2017 national championship team, with the 12th overall pick in the 2020 draft. Before the collision, he had caught 26 passes as a rookie and 24 more in his first seven games of the 2021 campaign.
