Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool: Medical, shirt number, wages and everything we know

Liverpool are poised to make Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister their first signing of the summer transfer window. The Argentina international is likely to become a Liverpool player this week before the market for Premier League clubs officially opens on Wednesday June 14th. Express Sport rounds up all the details we know as supporters eagerly await an official announcement from the club

Last month it had been reported by Sky Sports that Brighton wanted more than £70million to sell Mac Allister. But it has since emerged Liverpool will in reality pay less than that figure

The reported fee dropped to £60m recently but transfer insider Fabrizio Romano says it is even ‘way less’ than that and is lower than £45m. CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs similarly says the actual fee could be just under £45m courtesy of a release clause in the contract that the player signed last October.

Mac Allister will sign a five-year deal at Liverpool having already agreed personal terms. That would see him tied down until June 2028, by which time he will be 29 years old. Details of the wages he will take at Anfield are currently unconfirmed though Spotrac say he earns £50,000 a week with the Seagulls.

Argentine newspaper La Nacion have said that salary will double on Merseyside. But they could even treble to £150,000 and even then he would still fit in with the existing pay scale given Darwin Nunez, signed last summer, earns £140,000 a week per Spotrac while January arrival Cody Gakpo is said to be on £120,000

With personal terms agreed and Liverpool ready to pay his release clause, Mac Allister is expected to undergo a medical in the next 48 hours per Romano. He should then be officially unveiled subject to international clearance later this week before joining up with his new team-mates for pre-season in July.

As of yet, the Reds’ first summer friendly is against recently relegated Leicester in Singapore on July 30. They also face Bayern Munich in the Far East. More warm-up matches are expected to be confirmed soon. Liverpool will find out their first competitive fixture of the 2023-24 season on Thursday June 15, when the Premier League fixtures are announced at 9am
