Angel Reese beats Caitlin Clark in another major WNBA Aworld showdown.
Angel Reese did not play in the Chicago Sky’s season finale on Thursday, September 19. As it turns out, this was Chicago’s last game of the season after their 87-54 blowout loss to the Connecticut Sun led to their elimination from the WNBA Playoffs.
Reese had to watch the brutal loss from the sidelines as she continues to deal with a wrist injury that cost her the last few games of her rookie year. It was quite a debut campaign for the 22-year-old, though.
While she won’t be beating Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark in the Rookie of the Year race, Reese can, at least, take solace in the fact that she has defeated her rival in one particular scoring category.
“Angel Reese finished the WNBA season with the highest double-digit scoring rate among all 2024 rookies (.882),” wrote “I talk hoops” on X, formerly Twitter.
Before her season was cut short, Reese was able to play 34 games in her rookie year. During that stretch, she failed to reach double digits in scoring just four times, giving her an 88.2 percent double-digit scoring rate — the top mark among rookies.
Clark, on the other hand, played all 40 games, including Thursday’s 92-91 loss to the Washington Mystics. In 40 appearances this year, Clark was not able to hit double digits in the scoring department five times, giving her a rate of 87.5 percent.
It is worth noting, however, that on the season, Reese averaged 13.6 points per game. Clark leads all first-year players in this category with 19.2 per contest, which is one of the main reasons why she is the clear-cut choice for the Rookie of the Year title.
