Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive as Matt Turner could make his Reds debut on Saturday against his former side
Martin Odegaard has called Matt Turner’s move to Nottingham Forest “a great opportunity” for the goalkeeper ahead of their clash against the Reds on Saturday.
Steve Cooper’s side have been searching for a new shot-stopper all summer before finally sealing a deal to sign Turner from the Gunners on Wednesday.
Forest are also said to still be interested in signing Man United’s Dean Henderson, although reports have emerged that an injury situation at Old Trafford could mean that they will have to wait until the very end of the transfer window.
And ahead of what could be Turner’s debut for the Reds this weekend, Odegaard has issued a warning to his Arsenal teammates after their 1-0 defeat at the City Ground last season. He also praised Forest’s latest signing, calling him “a great character”.
“We face Nottingham Forest today, and it still feels very recent, our defeat against them at the end of last season. So that’s a big warning for us, and we have to show we’ve learnt from that,” he said in the club’s programme notes ahead of the game
“We had a great game against them here at home last season – especially the last hour of that game was really good – but the away game was the day we lost the league officially. We know they are a direct team, with lots of quality up front. It’s up to us to be ready for that.
“We know about their goalkeeper too of course, and I think this move is a great opportunity for Matt. I only worked with him for a year, but he’s a great guy, a great character to have around and so we will miss him here. We wish him all the best there, just not today of course!”
