The rotation has, nevertheless, remained mostly unaffected. Charlie Morton, who had considered retiring, was brought back by Alex Anthopoulos, but many had anticipated an outside addition, ideally a frontline player.
That hasn’t happened yet, and it probably won’t. But it’s not for lack of trying. Anthopoulos verified that the team has been in contact with several trade and free agent targets. For whatever reason, things haven’t worked out.
However, that doesn’t mean that someone can’t speak up because the
Shane Bieber, Corbin Burnes, and Dylan Cease—all former Cy Young winners—make up the top of the market.
The Braves are among the teams keeping an eye on the circumstances surrounding the White Sox ace, according to Rosenthal, but Chicago appears to prefer to hold off until the best free agents agree to contracts. He seems like the most likely of the three to seriously interest Atlanta’s GM because of his two years of team control at a cost-effective rate.
The same goes for Burnes, according to Rosenthal. The Brewers want to see how the rest of the market shakes out before pulling the trigger on a trade, but he also seems likely to be moved if an extension cannot be worked out.
