In a recent report, Estadio Deportivo mentioned that Aston Villa are showing interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso this summer. It has been claimed that the Villans are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Argentine talent.
Lo Celso enjoyed a decent loan spell at Villarreal as he put in a series of impressive displays at the centre of their midfield. The 27-year-old found the back of the net twice and earned three assists in 29 matches for the Yellow Submarine in multiple competitions.
The Argentine talent gave a good account of himself by averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.4 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He even distributed the ball accurately from midfield after making 86.5% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via who scored).
His current contract at his parent club Tottenham Hotspur is set to run out in the summer of 2025. However, it remains to be seen whether he is a part of Angelos Postecoglu’s plans for this new campaign which could open the door for the Villans to land him this summer.
Is Lo Celso A Decent Fit For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?
Lo Celso is a solid tackler of the ball to make life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park. He can shoot the ball accurately from long range and has got the technical quality to retain possession well for his team in the opponent’s half.
The Argentine sensation has got the vision to engineer a few chances in the final third and is a good dribbler of the ball.
We can expect Lo Celso to add more quality to Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s midfield department. He might even help the West Midlands club push for a top-half finish in the Premier League next season.
Hence, Lo Celso will fit Emery’s defensive needs quite well if the Villans can find a way to get him on board before the start of the new campaign. However, only time will tell whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of English football after struggling to prove his worth as a consistent performer in his time at Tottenham thus far.
