Southampton’s Romeo Lavia continues to see himself linked with a move to Liverpool and it seems that Anfield is the most likely destination for him.
However, he could set the Reds back by £50m and thereabouts as per The Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell, who spoke to Empire of the Kop exclusively on the matter. Speaking of Liverpool’s interest and the most likely destination for Lavia, here is what he said:
Southampton want a high figure for him. Someone has got to pay around £45m-£50m for Lavia. Who can do that is dependent on all the other targets they get.”
“Liverpool or Chelsea. I probably think Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp and with the background [work] they’ve done on him, that probably looks the likely destination.”
A £50m price tag for a player who is as young as Lavia, at 19, without any major international experience might seem a tad bit too much. While there are no doubts that he is a fantastic talent, for a sum as large as this, one would hope to get a starter quality player instead of someone like Lavia, who would have to work his way into the Liverpool lineup.

The decision on whether Liverpool can meet Southampton’s asking price for Lavia may depend on the club’s overall transfer strategy and the acquisition of other targets. Only if Liverpool is willing to allocate a substantial portion of their budget to secure the young midfielder.
However, Tanswell’s comments suggest that Liverpool has a strong interest in Lavia, as Jurgen Klopp and the club’s scouting team have reportedly done background work on the player. This suggests that Liverpool sees potential in Lavia and believes he could be a valuable addition to the squad.
