In contrast to the other relegated teams, Leeds United chose a different approach during the transfer window.
Leeds saw eight players from the club from the previous season leave on loan, while Leicester City and Southampton sold first team stars for large sums of money.
While the other two clubs raised a combined total of almost £250 million from player sales in the summer, Leeds was only able to garner somewhere about £26 million.
Most of the Whites’ squad had loan clauses inserted into their contracts that became active upon relegation, and so they decided to use them rather than sell, due to their decrease in value as a result of poor performances.
Brenden Aaronson is a prime example of it. He was acquired for £25 million in 2022, but he had a horrible season that forced Leeds to sell him at a big loss.
