The deal for a reliever from the New York Mets who was given a standing ovation only two weeks prior allowed the Baltimore Orioles to add to their bullpen depth.
In an attempt to strengthen their bullpen, the Baltimore Orioles dealt Yohan Ramírez to the New York Mets in exchange for monetary considerations.
The Mets designated Ramírez for assignment on Monday, following his 0-1 record with an 11.81 ERA in three games as a pitcher.
He will be added to the Orioles’ 40-man roster; however, it is not yet known if he will be sent to a minor-league team or transferred to the 26-man roster. On Thursday night, Baltimore took on the Boston Red Sox in the last game of a three-game series.
Baltimore will play the Milwaukee Brewers at home on Friday.
Since making his Major League debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2020, he has pitched in every season. He has pitched for the Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Guardians, and Mariners since the 2022 season began. In his MLB career, he had a 6-5 record with a 4.31 ERA.
In December, the White Sox sent Ramírez to the Mets in exchange for cash.
However, his confrontation with Milwaukee Brewers batter Rhys Hoskins on opening weekend is what Mets fans remember him for more.
After Hoskins and Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil got into a fight on Opening Day and after Hoskins hit a home run in the series’ second game, Ramírez threw behind Hoskins during a plate appearance, which resulted in Hoskins’s ejection and final three-game ban.
