Bayern Munich’s CEO has explained why he didn’t cancel Ryan Gravenberch’s move to Liverpool despite failing to sign a replacement on deadline day.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Jan-Christian Dreesen detailed that the midfielder was keen to move on from Bayern, which was enough to convince the German side to sell Gravenberch to Liverpool.
Dreesen said: “He came to us with the desire for more consistent playing time, so we decided on this transfer together with him. We wish him all the best for his future at Liverpool.
With Bayern deciding not to self-hijack the sale of Gravenberch to Liverpool, the Reds were able to sign the midfielder for a reported fee of £34m.
However, there’s no denying that Bayern have found themselves in a nightmare scenario, with their failed bid to sign Joao Palhinha now leaving the German giants one short in midfield.
