BBC Confirmed: Nottingham Forest sign talented young midfielder after league upset

Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as the Reds sign Scotland under-16 starlet Cormac Daly from Hamilton Academical

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of young midfielder Cormac Daly from Hamilton Academical.

The 16-year-old has agreed a professional contract with Forest, which will likely kick in on his seventeenth birthday as is customary. That will commit the Scotland under-16 international’s future to the City Ground until the summer of 2026. Until he turns 17, he has signed on scholarship terms.

Daly was part of the team that shocked Scottish youth football by winning the domestic under-18 league over giants like Celtic and Rangers. Announcing the teenager’s arrival on Tuesday, Forest said: “Nottingham Forest is pleased to confirm the signing of Scotland youth international Cormac Daly.

“An exciting attacking midfielder, Daly joins The Reds from Hamilton Academical, signing a scholarship and agreeing a professional contract which will run until the summer of 2026.”

Chris McGuane, Forest’s head of academy, added: “We are delighted to welcome Cormac to Nottingham Forest in the next stage of his development as a player.

“He is a player who we have seen has potential and we are looking forward to working with him to maximise this opportunity on a daily basis”.

Confirming Forest’s interest in the youngster last month, Rankin told the Scottish media: “Nottingham Forest have made an approach to say they are interested.

There’s been no talks yet, just a letter of interest. How that develops over the next week or so, we’ll wait and see because we get lots of letters of interest in our players.

“When you win the under-18 league – and the boys are getting ready to go into the UEFA Youth League now – that will always get interest. When you are at the top of the league, teams come to watch. So last season there were a lot of teams watching our under-18s and with the likes of Josh McDonald and Cormac being involved, teams will look at them. “It is up to them what they want to do with it.

“They are our players and until anything is done to meet what we are looking for, there’s no action taken. That’s what happens when there’s a successful team on the pitch.”
