The Miami Heat team includes a number of former Kentucky Wildcats, including guard Tyler Herro and big Bam Adebayo. After reaching the NBA Finals the previous season, the Heat’s offensive woes were mostly attributed on Herro’s injuries.
Even though Herro only played 67 games in the previous season, he is a productive player when he is on the floor. With a healthy start to the season, the 23-year-old guard has big expectations.
In an interview with Locked on Heat host Wes Goldberg, Herro stated, “I’m one of the best young scorers in the league and I have the potential to be the best scorer in the NBA at some point.”
The biggest gains Herro made in his third NBA season were from his second one. His scoring increased from 13.5 to 15.1 to 20.7 and last season to 20.1 over his first four seasons. He has been about 44% efficient from the field and 38% efficient from deep.
This upcoming season, Herro might surpass his per-game average, but his growth should be most noticeable in terms of efficiency. For the rookie guard, hitting 45% for the first time in his career would be monumental.
He has the stature to succeed at 6-foot-5, and the Heat should present an opportunity.
Herro did shoot a career-low 51.6% of his shots from beyond the arc last season; however, he is adjusting his technique to shoot more threes and fewer long-range two-pointers, which could help his efficiency this season.
Still, he has great hopes, and this season will provide him the opportunity to live up to them.
