Ottawa — Curling Canada has announced the appointment of Nolan Thiessen as its new CEO.
He takes over for Katherine Henderson, who departed the company in August to take a position as CEO of Hockey Canada.
For the past four years, Thiessen, a three-time Canadian and former world men’s curling champion, has been a part of Curling Canada’s senior management team.
In addition to playing lead for Kevin Koe’s team that won a men’s world title in 2010, the 43-year-old has played for teams that have won the Brier in 2010, 2014, and 2015.
In 2016, he gave up competitive curling to work as an athlete liaison for Curling Canada. Two years after joining the company, he most recently held the position of executive director of marketing and fan experience.
Danny Lamoureux, who delayed his retirement to assist in the transition following Henderson’s departure, is replaced as interim CEO by Thiessen.
