According to a person with knowledge of the move on Friday, Delon Wright has agreed to a contract buyout with the Washington Wizards and plans to sign with the Miami Heat after clearing waivers.
The person stated that Wright plans to be with the Heat when they return to practice following the All-Star break.
Because the move is still pending, the person spoke to The Associated Press under the condition of anonymity.
ESPN was the first to report on Wright’s plan to join the Heat and the buyout.
For Wright, whose older brother Dorell Wright was a member of the Heat team that won the 2006 NBA championship, Miami would be his eighth team. The signing of Delon Wright will also give the Heat some insurance, as guard Josh Richardson’s status is uncertain following his Sunday shoulder dislocation against Boston.
Wright has averaged 4.1 points per game for Washington this year. Throughout his 494-game regular season career with Toronto, Atlanta, Dallas, Detroit, Sacramento, Memphis, and the Wizards, he has averaged 7 points on 35% shooting from 3-point range.
