Former Leeds United winger Stuart McKinstry left the club as a free agent in the summer after a loan spell with boyhood club Motherwell, and is now returning to Scotland with second-tier side Queens Park.
Plenty of change came in the summer for Leeds as a host of players left the club for pastures new, whether that be on loan or permanently.
The retained list didn’t bring many surprises, but Stuart McKinstry was one of the players released from the club after making just two senior appearances for the club
It’s taken some time for winger McKinstry to find his way back into the game after his contract at Elland Road ended in the summer.
A decent loan stint with his boyhood club Motherwell last season helped him gain some stock in the senior game, and the Daily Record have revealed that he has now agreed a second-tier move to Scottish Championship side Queens Park.
The Scotland under-21 international will sign a deal until the end of the season with the side sitting seventh (of 10) in the table.
Could McKinstry have joined Wrexham?
Queens Park weren’t the only side that wanted to bring in the young winger this season, with the report also pointing out interest south of Scotland.
Of those were Wrexham, owned of course by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, aiming to climb the divisions after returning to the EFL this season.
Also interested were Gillingham and Forest Green Rovers, both in League Two with Wrexham, but McKinstry was eager to remain in Scotland.
It’s good to see that he’s back in the game, and a move to the second tier in Scotland might be smart for him.
He’s at an age where he needs to be playing every week, and he wasn’t going to in the top-flight with Motherwell, as much as he loves the club.
If he impresses with Queens Park, then it might not be long before he makes his way into the Premiership anyway.
