Jerry Jones, the Cowboys’ owner, clearly made the last-minute decision to sign a new contract with Mike McCarthy’s
The Dallas Cowboys, led by head coach Mike McCarthy, are poised to win the NFC East and possibly finish as the top seed in the conference.
The Cowboys, who have a 10-3 record and the NFL’s top offense—led by MVP candidate Dak Prescott—are riding high right now, having won five straight games.
Thus, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will need to make a significant choice regarding his head coach at the conclusion of the season.
McCarthy’s contract expires after the 2024 campaign, but Jones reportedly mentioned to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network that they have talked about extending McCarthy after this one.
McCarthy joined the Cowboys in 2020 and has had a very successful four years there.
He has coached three straight winning seasons and has won 63.5 percent of his games.
Over the previous three seasons, the Cowboys offenses have also ranked in the top eight for points scored and the top eleven for yards.
But in that time, he has only managed one playoff victory.
