Liverpool are preparing to return to Premier League action this Saturday looking to build on a positive start that has yielded 10 points from 12 thus far.
And with Saudi transfer window now closed, fans of the Reds can breathe a sigh of relief – until January at least – with Mo Salah still one of their players. Although just when ‘Koppites’ thought they could relax, news has emerged this week that Jurgen Klopp is in the frame to become the new manager of Germany.
Klopp himself may have been watching much of this international break from behind the sofa, with his side’s fixture schedule about to get hectic. Following a trip to Wolves on Saturday, Liverpool head to Austria to play LASK on Thursday as their Europa League campaign gets underway
Liverpool name 23-man Europa League squad
The Reds have been forced to axe back-up keeper Adrian from their squad for the Europa League in order to comply with the competition’s rules.
Teams are allowed to select 25 ‘List A’ players, but Liverpool are only permitted to name 23 due to their shortage of homegrown players. To select 25 players, eight need to be homegrown – a requirement that Liverpool have not been able to reach
The limitation of 17 overseas players in the Europa League is one less than allowed in the Premier League, meaning one player had to be left out. Third-choice goalkeeper Adrian has therefore been excluded, with Vitezslav Jaros selected alongside Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher.
Salah alternative leaves boss in awe
Ben Doak, who’s been tipped to succeed Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, has been praised after a dazzling display for Scotland’s U21s on Monday.
Doak, still only 17, started his country’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in Andalusia. Although the Liverpool forward failed to score, he was a handful throughout the night to leave his manager Scot Gemmill lauding his “exceptional performance” and obvious talent.
He told reporters: “It was an exceptional performance from Ben Doak. I would even add that’s there more to come from him. He’s not fully match fit at the moment because of his limited minutes as he is playing for such a good club. Imagine a fully-fit Ben Doak! I thought it was a really top performance and hopefully everyone saw that.
