Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is reportedly unhappy at Stamford Bridge and is prepared to leave the club if new manager Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t improve the club’s prospects.
The Argentine is one of the most gifted players in his position hence the £106.5 million the Blues paid to sign him from Benfica in January 2022.
Fernandez agreed a 10-year contract worth £186,000/week with Chelsea but the player is reportedly already showing signs of unrest and is willing to leave the club.
Why does Fernandez want to leave Chelsea?
According to a new report from Spain, Fernandez is unhappy with the way his career with Chelsea has panned out so far.
Last season, Chelsea finished the Premier League season in 12th place, a whopping 45 points behind eventual title-winners Manchester City.
So far this season, with four league games played, Chelsea are in 12th again and have managed just four points.
Fernandez is reportedly frustrated with the team’s progress in his 18 months at the club and if Mauricio Pochettino cannot turn things around, he is open to leaving.
The former Benfica star could find himself “seriously considering” an exit if Chelsea cannot find a way to make their side reach its potential in the wake of their €1 billion transfer spend since Todd Boehly took over the reigns from Roman Abramovich .
Could he solve Liverpool’s defensive midfield headache?
This summer, Jurgen Klopp only added no.8s to his squad although Wataru Endo is able to play both as a box-to-box midfielder or as the most defensive option at the base of the engine room.
Although it’s likely Klopp will be able to make the most of what he’s got, there is still a need for a specialist no.6 since Fabinho left.
There was interest in Joao Palhinha, Cheick Doucoure, Moise Caicedo and even new Manchester United signing Sofyan Amrabat.
Fernandez, who is both elite in possession and at play-breaking, would be a sensational option in Liverpool’s midfield.
Of course, given that Chelsea have amortised their £106.5 million payment to Benfica over a decade due to the length of the player’s contract, it would be a nightmarishly tricky deal to agree.
FSG are also loathe to spend that kind of money on signings despite the £111 million fee that was agreed with Brighton for Caicedo.
