Leeds United head east across the M62 tonight looking to build on Sunday’s promising 3-0 victory over Millwall at The Den. Tonight’s hosts have the advantage of having played on Friday night, when Hull City claimed a point at home to Coventry City, meaning some element of rotation may well enter Daniel Farke’s thinking.
The Whites began the midweek slate of fixtures in tenth place, two points behind Liam Rosenior’s Tigers, meaning a win at the MKM Stadium will see them move above the East Yorkshire side. Given the quick turnaround, Farke addressed the question of whether or not to rotate tonight in his pre-match press conference, but should he want to make any tweaks, he certainly has options.
Farke sounded optimistic that Ethan Ampadu will recover from the knock he suffered at The Den, while he also revealed that Patrick Bamford is back in team training and theoretically available for selection, although the German is unlikely to take the risk. Junior Firpo is closing on a return, but will not be available for tonight’s match, while skipper Liam Cooper has been back in training since last week so could be an option for Farke.
One player who is definitely missing will be Tottenham loanee Djed Spence, who faces eight weeks on the sidelines after damaging his lateral collateral ligaments. Stuart Dallas is also continuing his recovery
Should Leeds claim all three points against Liam Rosenior’s side then it will be the club’s first back-to-back away wins in the league since the 2020-21 season under Marcelo Bielsa.
