The “hiring process is underway” at Leeds United to find a host of new figures for the recruitment and scouting departments, according to Leeds Live.
The outlet reported via their website on 25 September that, in addition to a new head of recruitment, the club are looking to appoint new scouts covering France, Scandinavia, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the rest of the UK.
Manager Daniel Farke worked with technical director Gretar Steinsson and interim football advisor Nick Hammond to get business done during the summer window, with the latter’s future with the club still to be determined, but the Whites are now “keen to bolster the recruitment department with a raft of vacancies”.
The moves come as part of a wide restructuring at Elland Road following the 49ers takeover from Andrea Radrizzani, and would appear to have an eye on the new set up being in place in good time for the January transfer window.
Moves being made
It may not have been perfect but the new regime has come through a tumultuous summer looking fairly good, with a the squad restocked well despite a huge number of cheap departures.
Farke was identified as the man to direct the team through the mayhem, and that decision is now paying off with the German leading his side on a six-game unbeaten run that now has Leeds United sitting in sixth and in solid form.
But the process never ends and if the Whites are going to capitalise on the best parts of the work that has been done in the past couple of months they will need to have the longer-term lay-out ready ahead of January.
There is clearly an argument to keep Hammond on, which Phil Hay has previously suggested could well be on the cards, given how he, Steinsson and Farke have managed to overcome a difficult summer.
And an overarching director of football to ultimately replace Victor Orta has also been mooted, but with only Willy Gnonto, Georginio Rutter and Darko Gyabi currently at the club from last season’s entire set of signings the new regime is going to need to improve on the Spaniard’s transfer hit-rate.
Early signs are positive with the likes of Ethan Ampadu, Joel Piroe, and Sam Byram proving to be vital pieces in Farkes side, so getting the scouting and recruitment departments solidified should, in theory, help continue in that vein.
