Jamie O’Hara says Joao Palhinha ‘isn’t far off’ the likes of Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice, in terms of talent, as he backed him to thrive at a team like Liverpool.
The 28-year-old enjoyed a stellar debut campaign in the Premier League for Fulham last season by helping Marco Silva’s side secure a top-ten finish, both Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice were sold for £100 million+ this summer, with suggestions that Palhinha is ‘in that bracket’
O’Hara thinks, if a player like Joao Palhinha moved to a team like Liverpool, then he would more than ‘hold his own’, as he told Sky Sports News.
Given Palhinha’s eye-catching performances last season, there is talk of him possibly heading for the exit door before Friday’s deadline.
Jurgen Klopp is still in need of quality before that cut-off point, so will they push for his signature?
If the Portugal international does move, then O’Hara thinks he would cost close to £100 million, although, he feels that the player’s age ‘brings his price down’.
“I think Palhinha, for me, he is up there,” said O’Hara. “We talk about Caicedo going for £100 million. I think Palhinha isn’t far off that sort of bracket. He is getting close to £100 million player.
“I think he is absolutely fantastic. He has got everything. Fulham are lucky to have him in their team.
On Liverpool having to spend big to get Palhinha: “I think he isn’t far off a £100 million player. The issue he has got is that he is 28. So, he’s not a Declan Rice where you sign him and he is a young player. That is going to bring his price down.
“But in terms of what you are getting on the football pitch as a player, he isn’t far off a Caicedo or Declan Rice, in terms of talent. He has got that. He can hold his own in a top team fighting for the title. He is brilliant.”
Palhinha would be a fantastic signing for Klopp
The powers that be haven’t spent much since selling Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, which has to be questioned.
This isn’t a Liverpool side that has been thriving during the past 12 months, but one that declined last season.
On top of that, you lose key players, so they need to bring in added quality and if they can sign Palhinha, then he would thrive and suit a manager like Klopp down to the bone.
