Nottingham Forest transfer news as the January transfer window approaches for Steve Cooper’s Reds
Rangers defender Borna Barisic is apparently still a target for Nottingham Forest. The Reds were connected with the 30-year-old in the summer as they sought to boost their squad following their Premier League survival.
Full-back was one of the positions they prioritized, and left-back Barisic was thought to be on their radar. Forest are still interested in the Croatia international, according to TEAMtalk. However, it appears that they are not the only ones that are interested.
Trabzonspor of Turkey had a bid rejected in the summer. It is also reported that several other European clubs “would be keen” to sign him in the future.
Barisic’s contract expires at the conclusion of the season, and he will be free to negotiate with other teams in January. With that in mind, the Rangers have reportedly proposed a new two-year contract to avoid losing him for nothing.
However, even if he signs a contract extension, it appears that a move is still possible. According to reports, the Scottish firm “will hope to cash in” if new conditions are reached.
Forest needed a replacement for loanee left-back Renan Lodi, who joined Marseille in the summer. Despite being natively right-footed, free agent Ola Aina had come in and made that position his own until injuries forced him out of the last two games.
The Reds also signed Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares. He’s made three appearances thus far but is presently out with a groin injury.
Head coach Steve Cooper started Moussa Niakhate as left back against Brentford in place of Aina and Tavares. When he was sent off for a second bookable offense, Harry Toffolo came off the bench and made an impact, then started the game against Crystal Palace before the international break.
Serge Aurier and Neco Williams can also play on the left flank. Omar Richards remains on the City Ground’s books but is now on loan to Olympiacos as he attempts to overcome his injury problems.
