Former two-way signee Scotty Pippen has joined the Grizzlies after playing for the South Bay Lakers at the start of the season.
After spending the first five games of the G League season with the South Bay Lakers, Scotty Pippen Jr. was reportedly signed by the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. Pippen agreed to a two-year, two-way contract.
Pippen was not re-signed on a two-way contract coming into this season following a disappointing campaign as a two-way signing the previous year. Before being cut and joining the team in the G League, he did participate in training camp with the Lakers.
Pippen averaged 18.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 2.8 steals per game in 30.8 minutes per game in his five games with South Bay this season. Pippen struggled in both areas last season, shooting just 43.9% and 20.8% from the field, respectively, which prevented him from getting meaningful minutes in the NBA.
In the G League, Jalen Hood-Schifino has also played more since Skylar Mays signed a two-way contract. He finished with 19 points in a victory over Grand Rapids Gold on Monday. He made his G League debut with 20 points.
A return by either Hodge or Fudge to the Lakers’ G League squad would not be shocking. However, the team now has more spots available due to a few recent departures.
