Steve Cooper was a big fan of Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams but one factor tempted Nottingham Forest to pull out of a possible transfer. The Reds were keen on the American during the window but instead looked elsewhere.
According to The Athletic, the Forest head coach is a huge fan of Adams. He was keen to bring him to the City Ground before he eventually switched from Elland Road to Bournemouth.
Adams spent a lot of last season injured as Leeds suffered relegation from the Premier League. He made just 26 appearances for the Whites and didn’t play during their disastrous end-of-season run that sealed their fate.
His injury problems would end his chances of signing for Forest. Adams nearly ended up at Chelsea, with the Blues pulling out after something was picked up during his medical and Forest were sceptical over his fitness too.
Although Cooper was a big fan, he too remained unconvinced over his fitness record. The player has yet to recover from the injury sustained last season and is still awaiting his Bournemouth debut.
Forest boss Cooper fancied Adams but pulled out of potential deal
The Reds had the last laugh here. Had Forest parted with £20 million to sign Adams, it’s very unlikely they’d have been able to sign PSV midfielder Ibrahim Sangare on transfer deadline day.
Sangare looks much more suited to what Forest need right now. He’s the defensive midfielder that the club have desperately craved and they’re unlikely to rue this Adams decision.
Adams clearly has the talent but Forest couldn’t chance his injury record. As a result, they look to have made the right decision and should have no regrets over not signing Adams from Leeds this summer.
