bbc news: The £7.5 million striker Leeds wanted to sign in the summer hasn’t starred for a minute for his new team.

Tom Cannon was a man in-demand in the summer before he eventually left Everton to join Leicester City with Leeds United among the clubs keen – but things have not gone to plan for Cannon so far.

Cannon, 20, left Everton in the summer for Leicester in a deal worth £7.5m. It comes after just four senior games for the Toffees, one of which came this season prior to his move to Enzo Maresca’s side.

The striker though, starred for Preston on loan the season beforehand – scoring eight goals in 21 games for the Lancashire club. Leicester chose to spend big. But the Foxes were not alone in their interest.

According to a report from Alan Nixon, it was claimed Leeds had been keeping an eye on his situation in the summer. But, it was the King Power for Cannon – however, Cannon has endured a frustrating start.

Leeds dodged a bullet in signing Tom Cannon from Everton

The striker is yet to play a single minute for Leicester this season, failing to even make a matchday squad until last weekend. A game in which Sam Greenwood scored a free-kick, as Middlesbrough won.

Maresca said in September that they signed Cannon with the knowledge that the striker had a stress fracture in his back. Whether they would have got him if they knew he’d be out until now, is up in the air.

Nevertheless, Leeds did not sign Cannon – and end up, spending £7.5m on a player that has failed to even play a minute until now. He might come good, but right now, he seems like an expensive waste.

Leeds instead signed Joel Piroe and kept Georginio Rutter, the duo forming a brilliant partnership in the final third for Daniel Farke. It was the right decision not sign Cannon to Elland Road, even if he improves.
