BBC NEWS: The Cubs, Blue Jays, and Mets officially projected to sign a slugger as a free agency.

New York will have some competition for the free-agent utility man
Opening Day may see the New York Mets looking a little different.

A few free agents who are still available have been connected to New York, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see a trade completed soon.

Veteran utility guy J.D. Davis is one player who has been mentioned a lot lately as a potential possibility for New York after the San Francisco Giants dropped him recently, despite Davis having a great 2023 season.

In 144 games played with the Giants last season, Davis slashed.248/.325/.413 with 18 home runs and 69 RBI. After San Francisco signed four-time Gold Glove Award winner Matt Chapman, he was just dismissed.

According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, New York has apparently been considering a reunion, but the team will have competition for his services as the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs are also considered possibilities.

Both the Los Angeles Angels and the Mets are still considering J.D. Martinez, Heyman stated. “J.D. Davis is, too, though the (Toronto Blue Jays) and (Chicago Cubs) make sense for him, as well.”

During his more than three years with the Mets, Davis experienced what was maybe his finest season to date. Despite injuries, he played in 140 games in 2019 and slashed, drove in 57 runs, and hit 22 home homers.307, 369, and 527.
